Rhea Xiaochen Ge
Mixed-media Artist

About

Rhea Xiaochen Ge is a Mixed-media Artist whose practice focuses on contemporary Eastern visual and spatial narratives. As a Gen Z artist, she draws aesthetic concepts from historical contexts, examining how traditional culture can be rearticulated within globalized and urban environments. Her work seeks to construct a visual system that bridges Eastern sensibilities with contemporary spatial expression.

Her practice is grounded in the study and translation of Eastern cultural structures. By reinterpreting mythological texts such as The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shan Hai Jing), alongside vernacular visual traditions and intangible cultural heritage practices—such as shadow puppetry—Ge transforms cultural symbols into spatial narratives that can be viewed, traversed, and experienced. She graduated from Royal College of Art, where her research integrated painting, physical materials, and digital technologies within spatial installation. This cross-media training enables her to establish a coherent creative process spanning conceptual development, visual systems, and spatial realization. Working through installation, moving image, and mixed media, she reorganizes visual systems and spatial order to generate new modes of perception for Eastern narratives in contemporary contexts.

Her works have been realized in both public art and high-end commercial spaces, emphasizing public engagement and emotional experience. Notably, her Chinese New Year installation at Taikoo Li Chengdu employed Eastern mythology as its central narrative, generating extensive public interaction within an urban setting. Her visual systems have also been applied in collaborations with brands such as Estée Lauder and Longhua Club, demonstrating the adaptability of her narrative framework at the intersection of art and commerce.
